Homepage Overview

Navigate to Content > Pages > Index

*Note: You cannot change the name of the Index page. The Index.php is your home template and assigned automatically to your home page.  This templates operates the same as your "Subpage Fullwidth" template.

The home page (Index) works using various modules and elements throughout Ekklesia. The basics are:

  • Header: Logo, navigation and search
  • Header area: three options - header image, background video, or image rotator
  • Sections: nine fullwidth sections available (utilizing monklets)
  • Footer: logo, church information and social media links

Header Area

The header options for your homepage are the same for your subpage templates: static image, background video or image rotatorSEE OVERVIEW HERE >>

Header Overlay

The "Header Overlay" check box will add a color over to your static image or background video. When using a rotator, the "Slide Overlay" check box can be added per slide.

Header Text

With a static image or background video, the "Header Text" field in your page settings can be used to add content overtop of the header spot (ie: text, buttons, etc.)

Note: the "Header Overlay" and "Header Text" fields will not be used with the image rotator option. The text overlay and additional settings pull from each rotator slide.

For the rotator options, see more info here >>

Sections

The majority of your homepage is controlled by sections, and this area is located at the bottom of the page settings. There are 9 available sections, and five of them are pre-populated with homepage monklets designed for the Sunday theme.

You can rearrange, remove, or replace any of these sections. Leaving any of the section fields blank won't cause an issue - you can choose to make your homepage as long or as short as you'd like.

Homepage Sections Overview

Home - Sermon

Content  > Sermons

Displays the image/video, title, date, speaker and summary for your latest message.

Within the "Home - Sermon" section, the "Section Monklet - Recent Sermon" monklet is used. You can use the "find_category" or "find_group" to display articles for a specific category or group.

The "section heading" field controls the "Our Latest Message" title.

Home - Next Steps

This setup uses a section and link list to display a row of icons/links.

The icons/links are managed under Content > Link Lists > "Next Steps". For each item in the list, the name, link and icon class fields are used. The icon displays on the left, and the name displays on the right.

The custom icons are created by entering a custom class in the "icon class" field (ie: fa-twitter). See a full list of available icons here: https://mk043.monkpreview.com/_assets/fonts/icons/fontawesome/

Note: this setup works best with 3 or 4 items.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Within the "Home - Next Steps" section, the monklet "Section Monklet - Linklist Icon Row" is setup in the content field. The "find" parameter is required in order to specify the link list name.

ex: {{section-monklet-linklist-icon-row|find="next-steps"}}

The "section heading" field controls the title, and the description text is added below the monklet in the "content" field. The following section categories are also used: "Section Options: Section Dark" and "Section Options: Section Overlay Dark".

Home - Events

Events > Events

Displays a rotator of the 12 most recent events published as featured. The rotators shows 3 events at a time.

Within the "Home - Events" section, the monklet labeled  "Section Monklet - Featured Events Carousel" is added in the content field. You can use the "find_category" or "find_group" to display events for a specific category or group.

ex: {{section-monklet-featured-events-carousel|find_category="kids"}}

The "section heading" field controls the "What’s Coming Up?" title.

Home - WYSIWYG

This is a freeform content section, so any text, images, links, etc. are managed in the content field.

For this example section, the background is using the "background image" field and the "Section Options: Section Overlay Color" category. The section title is managed in the "section heading" field.

Home - Articles

Content > Articles

Displays the 3 most recent articles assigned to the "Stories" category.

Within the "Home - Articles" section, the "Section Monklet - Recent Articles (3)" monklet is used. You can use the "find_category" or "find_group" to display articles for a specific category or group.

ex: {{section-monklet-recent-articles-3|find_category="stories"}}

The "section heading" field controls the "Our Latest Stories" title.

Home - Blog

Content > Blogs

Displays the recent post from a specific blog. The blog post image displays on the left, and the details display on the right (title, date, author and summary).

Within the "Home - Blog" section, the monklet labeled "Section Monklet - Recent Post Fullwidth" is used in the content field. The specific blog you want to pull from needs to be added as an inline parameter:

ex: {{section-monklet-recent-post-fullwidth|name="blog-name-here"}}

The "Latest From Our Blog" title is hard coded and will display your specific blog title (in place of "Our Blog"). Within the section, the "Section Options: Section Dark" category option is used.

Note: This is a full width section option and should not be placed in the content of a page. No other content should be placed in the section with this monklet.

Home - Newsletter

Within the "Home - Newsletter" section, the "Newsletter Sign Up" monklet is used and generates the email sign up field. When a user subscribes, their email address will be added to the "Newsletter" group in the cms (People > Groups). This can be removed from the section if you want to use your own content or link out to a separate newsletter platform.

The "section heading" field controls the title, and the additional text is added above the monklet in the "content" field.
