Athletics Layout #1

Athletics #1 Layout Overview

The Athletics #1 Layout is our first to offer content specifically geared towards team sports. It provides a number of sections to showcase each team individually. This layout relies heavily on categories to keep content organized.

Default Sections Included:

  1. News Articles
  2. Schedule & Stats
  3. Team Roster
  4. Coaching Staff
  5. Photo Gallery
  6. Tickets
  7. Sponsors

The Athletics Template does need to make use of one page inside of the Pages Module (Content > Pages). Make sure to assign the Athletics #1 Template to a page, using the Template field in the page editor, to ensure the athletics layout is visible on your site.

Page Settings

When you set up a new page for each team you will need to make sure to assign the correct categories to the page.

  • Level 1 category is always "Athletics" and is required.
  • Level 2 category is the sport for the page ex. "Football" and is required.
  • Level 3 categories are optional ex. "Varsity", "Junior Varsity", etc.
  • The order that the Level 3 categories are assigned to the page is the order the page filter items will display.  This applies if you are using the Level 3 categories as no filter will display if only using the Level 2 sport category.
  • Billboard/Header area is the same as the rest of the pages.

Sections

The Athletics #1 Template features up to seven sections that you can fully edit and rearrange. These are assigned under the Sections area of your page settings, and you can use as many or as few sections as you want on each ministry page.

The following Sections are edited within the Section Module. You can access each section from the Athletics Template or by going to the Section Module and searching for the following titles:

  • News - "Athletics 1 - Football - News"
  • Schedule & Stats - "Athletics 1 - Football - Schedule"
  • Roster - "Athletics 1 - Football - Roster"
  • Coaching Staff - "Athletics 1 - Football - Staff"
  • Gallery - "Athletics 1 - Football - Gallery"
  • Tickets - "Athletics 1 - Football - Tickets"
  • Sponsors - "Athletics 1 - Football - Sponsors"

Within the Sections, the following fields are used:

  • Name: internal use only
  • Description: controls the anchor navigation title for the section
  • Content: contains the section title and editable content, monklets, etc.

Other optional fields include background color, background image, dark background and parallax background. These control the display and functionality of the specific section. Please refer to your setup guide for an overview of section options available for your theme/site.

Monklets

The pre-built sections include monklets that work in conjunction with the Athletics Category added to the "Category" field of your page. So, these sections will only display content assigned to the respective category or group. Note: be sure the name of the Ministry Category is an exact match to the category/group used for your modules in the CMS.

The following pre-built sections are using monklets, and the details of each section are outlined below.

  • Athletics 1 - Football - News -> {{athletics-1-articles}}
  • Athletics 1 - Football - Schedule -> {{athletics-1-schedule}} and {{athletics-1-stats}}

Note/Fields

  • Room - Each event should either receive the Home or Away selection.  This is required in order to determine the score and logo placements.
  • Summary - This is used to display the scores and game status of games already played.   This will use three entries separated by a pipe "|".  The first is always the Home Team score.  The second is always the Away Team score.  The third is always the result for the main school team (not the opponent)  ex. A game with the main/school team is the  home team scoring 28 and the opposing away team scoring 14 would have an entry "28|14|W".
  • The Location field is used to display the opposing team name (also required to match the logo image).

The group "Current Season" is required to show only events from a specific season.  Because this monklet displays past events (games already played) this group helps segment current from past seasons (past events that you do not want to show will need this group removed).

Team Logos

The Link List "Athletics 1 - Logos" is used to display both the main/site school logo and opposing team logos. Content > Link Lists > Athletics 1 - Logos

There are two parent categories that are required.  The first is "Opposing" and the second is "Team".  The "Team" should only have 1 child link and it should contain the image for the main/site school.  The "Opposing" will have any/all matching child links to the Locations used for the opposing teams in the Events module.  Each link entry should have a corresponding Location name used in the event.  The image for each entry will display for the opposing team.
